Kanye Releases Heartfelt Dedication to North West

Kanye West has recently become known for his “ranting,”, but what many seem to forget is the pain that the 37-year-old rapper has suffered throughout his career. In 2007, his mother died of heart disease, and her death left an emptiness in his soul. An emptiness that was felt in his music.

West released a song for the New Year that reminds us of that pain – a song that is bound to leave anyone who listens in tears. The song “Only One,” which features Paul McCartney is a dedication to his mother and his 1 year-old daughter North West. On the track, he sings:

“Hello Mari, How ya’ doing?

I think the storm ran out of rain the clouds are moving

I know you’re happy, cause I can see it

So tell the voice inside ya’ head to believe it”

Although you can hear the pain in his voice, it is the last few lines that tug at your heart. “Tell Nori about Me. Tell Nori about me. I just want you to do me a favor, tell Nori about me.”

As reported by 2DopeBoyz, Kanye West was astonished when he came up with the song because there was a spiritual moment. As he was holding North West he started singing “Hello my only one,” when he realized that it was his mom speaking to his daughter. West explained that the name Kanye means “only one,” and he knew that there was a powerful message in the words he shared with young Nori.

“Everyone asks me what my favorite Kanye West song is. It’s Only One. Kanye felt like his mom was singing thru him to our daughter. This song makes me cry every time I hear it.”
