#MakeoverMonday: Tasania McPherson

Born in Jamaica, I’ve lived in New York since 8 years-old, and officially grew up in Mount Vernon.  I am 23 years-old, and currently attend LIM college, of which I will graduate in December 2016 with a B.A. in Fashion Merchandising.

To work in the fashion industry and become a District Manager by the age of 30.

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I– I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” – Robert Frost

I relate to this quote, because I haven’t always taken the easy road, nor have I been dealt an easy hand in life. However, although it has been tough, and full of obstacles, my experience has made a difference. It has taught me that I don’t always have to follow a certain path. I can go my own way and still be successful and great in everything that I do.

#MakeoverMonday has left me feeling optimistic and hopeful for the future. I realized that I needed to step outside of my comfort zone and challenge myself.

“Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud” by Maya Angelou. I can relate to this quote, because everyday I try to make the people in my life, remember me for who I am. I am always there to give a helping hand, and I do things for others without expecting anything in return.

Havana Twist Product Details

Hey curly girls!

So, I recently tried this Havana twist hairstyle on my best friend Spirit, and wanted to share the steps with you all to try at home.

Step 1: I prepped the hair (which was freshly conditioned) with Shea Moisture for You “Intensive Hydration Hair Masque” with Cantu Beauty on the ends and scalp using the Tea Tree Jojoba “Scalp Oil”.

Step 2: I then, two strand twisted the hair using Dark and Lovely’s “Anti Breakage” for moisture.

Step 3: I used Eco Styler Gel and Jamaican Mango and Lime’s “Locking Firm Wax” to hold down the edges and bases of the twists.

The clamps were used to hold the twist down and smooth out the root to create a good transition between the teal hair and the braided hair. For this step, I used the Noir brand.

Overall, the prep took a little over five hours. The prepping actually took the longest amount of time, but was truly important for this protective style. Always make sure to give your hair a break while it stays moisturized and protected.

Stay tuned for more tips and tricks.

Go-To Products: Apple Cider Vinegar Benefits

Did you know that Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) can be used for several treatments, including the following: natural hair loss, dandruff/itchy scalp relief, hair herbal rinse and much more!

ACV has the ability to detangle the hair, and help balance its #pH balance by removing the buildup caused by many styling products and inexpensive shampoos.

Rinsing with ACV can also close the numerous cuticles on your hair shaft, which will result in a smoother, shinier and easier to manage hair. For the best results, mix 1/3 of a cup of ACV with 1-liter of water. Store in a spray bottle, and leave in the shower, using often to help replenish your natural hair.

Hope this helps!

“Deeper than Deep” Conditioner Treatment

1. Pick your favorite deep treatment (try Shea Moisture “deep treatment masque”) and a penetrating oil like grape seed, almond, coconut or olive oil.

2. Mix the ingredients (treatment and oil/s) together with water (just like your body, your hair needs water).

3. I’ve never been a big fan of honey, but add a little if you prefer. Honey is a natural humectant and is known for its moisture.

4. Put on a shower cap and chill out for an hour or eight. I normally go to sleep or keep it in my hair for two + hours, and then spend at least 30 minutes under my hooded dryer for extra penetration.

This “Deeper than Deep” treatment should probably be done once a month; however, I would recommend once a week…ESPECIALLY if you suffer from damage, dry hair and/or currently trying to get your hair back on track like the rest of the world!

Rihanna Partners With Stance Socks

Today, Rihanna announced a partnership with Stance Socks on Instagram. For the partnership, the clothing brand will offer limited edition “Murder Rih Wrote” socks for sale.

The socks, available for both men and women feature various “bad gal” sayings, including “run, run” and “everybody move.”  The collection is available for purchase on the Stance website and vary in price, with the knee-highs retailing at $26.00.

Partnering with Rihanna has proven to be a great business decision for brands, as she’s contributed to impressive sales for other retail companies, including MAC cosmetics. In fact, her products often sell out within a few hours.

#MakeoverMonday: Jenelle Forrester

This week’s #MondayMakeover features the gorgeous Jenelle Forrester, a radio personality for the Fashion Institute of Technology’s radio show “The Trap.” I had such a great time styling this young lady in trap trendy attire that helped showcase her bubbly personality.

Tell Me About Yourself

My name is Jenelle Forrester, and I was born and raised in Queens, New York. I am currently a radio personality on F.I.T’s radio show “THE TRAP,” where I discuss trending topics relevant to the entertainment industry. I also interview underground music artists, and play the best songs in Hip Hop and R&B. I am a naturalista with HUGE curly hair that I like to say is my staple that everyone knows me for. I tell it like it is. I am that friend that will let you know when you have lipstick on your teeth.

What’s Your Dream Job?

My dream job would be for me to work at either Power 105.1 or Hot 97 as a radio personality. I would also like to manage artists in the future, but ultimately I would like to play a huge role in the entertainment industry.

What is a quote that you live by?

Never hold yourself back due to fear, because the future holds remarkable things that you could have never imagined.

Hair Tip: Inversion Method

Here is an all-natural method for hair growth! Using a series of different poses, you will stimulate blood flow to the scalp; ultimately encouraging rapid hair growth.

Warm up some olive oil/castor oil mix and massage your scalp for four minutes.

While sitting, drop your head between your knees like you’re painting your toes, or dip your head in the sink as if you’re about to wash your hair. You can also pose like the girl in the photo above. Some people even do handstands.

While the blood is rushing to your head, you will massage your hair with the warm oil mix. Remember not to wash the oil out for about two hours.

Do this for seven days straight, and then STOP for three consecutive weeks. If you do it too often, your hair will not respond.

I’m going to try this out because…why not? If you decide to join me, tag me in your progress pics #CurlssForTheGirlss
