#MakeoverMonday: Kayon

Today we feature the beautiful Kayon Rudolph who was made over head to toe in beautiful spring brights. Here’s her story:

Tell me about yourself?
My name is Kayon Rudolph, I am 24 years old, and I was born on February 13, 1991. I was born and raised in Jamaica and moved to the U.S. in 2006 at the age of 15.
What’s your dream job?
Hmmm I’m still pondering that; however, I love modeling and I’m considering being a pediatric nurse or flight attendant.
What is a quote that you live by?
My daily motto is prayer + hardwork = success. Amen!

CurlssfortheGirlss: Wintertime Hair Tip

1. Co-wash more, shampoo less – use shampoo ONLY when you need to clarify and get rid of product buildup. For example: If you wash your hair every week, transition into washing it every two weeks or simply co-wash and shampoo/clarify your hair once a month. “As I Am” has a coconut co-wash that I’d recommend. The product cleanses, but also conditions curly hair.

2. Overall, during the cold winter months it is important to keep as much moisture in your hair as possible. DEEP CONDITIONING – is EXTREMELY important, but make sure you find a deep conditioner without the glycerin ingredient, because those products tend to cause breakage. I don’t have a favorite deep conditioner, as I like to try different ones every month – switch it up on ‘em.

3. Use protective styles. You don’t want to do too much stylist, but you should try to protect your hair as much as possible, especially if you don’t have time to condition and co-wash as frequently as you’d like. Top knots and buns are my go-to hairstyles. However, braids and twist like baby boo’s in the above picture are good options too. Make sure it’s not too tight though, because we have to keep them edges.
Seal with oil. Most people don’t pay attention to this step, but it is a necessary game changer. After you slap on all that moisture, the best way to make it long-lasting is through the #LOC method. Leave-in condition, oil and cream.

4. Limit Head Gear. If you don’t absolutely need it, don’t wear it! Not only will it leave you edge-less, but wearing head gear, hats, etc. also have the tendency to suck the moisture right out of your hair – especially wool products. Limiting hat use will help prevent breakage overall. If you must wear something on your head, try a loose Erykah Badu style beanie, or put your silk scarf or bonnet on under your hat to protect your hair.

I have numerous posts on my favorite products and tips that you can check out here on the blog, or by visiting my Instagram page. Leave a comment if you need more suggestions regarding products and hair methods.

#MondayMakeover: Yasmeen

Welcome to Monday Makeovers! During this weekly series, a new young lady will be “made over and under” by yours truly. For this special, I am searching for men and women who aren’t confident with their look, but are in search of something fun and different.

This week features Yasmeen an aspiring model from Harlem, New York.

Tell me about yourself?

My name is Yasmeen and I’m eighteen-years-old from Harlem, New York. I am a mix of African American and Cherokee Indian.

What’s your dream job?

My dream is… Well I don’t really have a dream job, but as I grow and learn I just know for certain that I want to be able to help those that can’t help themselves. I believe when you do good, good comes to you. I also want to provide for my family.

What is a quote you live by?

“A minor setback for a major comeback”

Because, when you lose something you always gain more in the future, so a loss is not really a loss it’s more of a gain.

Product Review: Ouidad and Camille Rose

I stayed away from both of these for a while (mainly because of the price). For starters, I am not a fan of mousse, and I always assumed that’s what this Ouidad product was. Only to find out that it is one of the best leave in conditioner/styling primers ever. Please go buy this stuff, and love it now.

I absolutely love it. The Ouidad daily conditioner is able to smooth out those frizzy’s that pop up, after your hair dries following a wash. Once you put the style primer in, it literally prepares your hair for any product that you use – giving it a great detangled, moisturized base. FYI – I purchased mine at Ulta.

The Camille Rose Naturals revitalizing hair smoother is great as well. Because of the cold weather, you want to refrain from wetting your hair all the time. This hair smoother is my new go-to refresher. It’s perfect for the second, third day and so forth.

I smooth the product on my hair (curl by curl – It takes awhile to do, but the results lead to fluffy, smooth, moisturized hair.) I recommend letting your hair air dry, for the best results. FYI – I purchased this product at Target.

Both products definitely get a five star rating. Try them out, and tag me @CurlssForTheGirlss in your photos with the results.

Alexander Wang Partners with H&M

Alexander Wang has partnered with H&M on a collection that allows fans to purchase items designed by the American icon for an affordable price. While the clothing line launched early November, its pieces are already sold out – which doesn’t come as a surprise.

The sports-chic line, features black, grey and white pieces that are perfect for making a statement on a casual day. My favorite ones are the scuba-look tops that sell at a retail price of $59.95. The collection also offers accessories, including sunglasses, a yoga mat, gloves and socks.

I am a fan of the clothing line; however, there are pieces that I would not purchase – for instance the plain belt that costs nearly $80.00.

Check out some of my recommendations below, and view the entire collection here.

Kerry Washington Collabs with The Limited on “Scandal” Collection

Are you excited for the new “Scandal” season, because I definitely am? If you’re a fan of the show, then it’s hard not to notice the fly suits that Ms. Olivia Pope is always dressed in, so effortlessly.

With that being said, my fashion lovers are definitely in for a treat. Kerry Washington has collaborated with her costume designer Lyn Paolo to offer her fierce gladiators a 78 piece collection, full of Olivia Pope es’ clothing. In fact, you can currently visit The Limited retailer and purchase a pair of wide leg trousers, a crisp white button down, or a baby pink wool trench coat for under 250 dollars.

The collection is sophisticated, easy, simple and chic. It’s for your mom, your grandmothers, your teenage sister, and equips women for the next stage in our professional lives, or as Kerry Washington said:

“Women often feel like they have to choose between smart and sexy. This collection says you can be both of these things. You can be fabulous and fearless.”

The collection will only be available from now through May 2015, so snag your Pope pieces before they run out.

Fall Styles 2014

The fall season is guaranteed to wrap us up in plush, furry, fuzzy and fun textures. People across various cities will be draped in the thickest of knits and comforted by colorful lavish fur throws.

This fall season, I encourage you to tap into your most elegant self; however, on those not so fabulous days you can over indulge in bright metallic and deep jeweled toned colors to make yourself feel and look great! Rich colors such as eggplant, forest green and cobalt blue will easily add luster to those cold and callous winter days.

Additionally, midi dresses, ankle length skirts and wide leg pants will make you feel like you’re straight out of a scene of “Mahogany.” This season will offer color and comfort. Embrace it!

Product Review: Camille Rose Deep Conditioner

Camille Rose Naturals deep conditioner algae renew gets a thumbs up from me. I applied the very thick, deep conditioner all over my dampened hair. I let it sit for about 30min to an hour. Before I rinsed it out I massaged it in my hair. (It felt like it could be helpful for detangling, but I wasn’t in the mood for all of that) when I rinsed it out, my hair was soft and shiny!

Check out my fresh photo below and let me know what you think. Also, I kind of want to try a new moisturizer – if you have any suggestions leave them in the comments.

Cheap & Sweet

On a hot summer day in August, as women, we need something cheap, sweet and easy breezy. Whenever I find myself having to head out to an outdoor photo-shoot for work, I try my best NOT to wear anything that will restrict me from doing my job.

This one-piece romper (pictured above) from Mystic Boutique in New York was on sale for $24.99. That’s right! You heard right, only $24. I paired it with some cute black flats, a gold Michael Kors watch and some cute shades I scored from H&M. Voila!

Do you think that I pulled the look above off perfectly? I definitely do. Comment below and let me know how you would wear it differently.
