August Beauty Finds

Unfortunately, summer is coming to an end; however, that doesn’t mean that we have to pack away ALL of our summer goodies.

On Saturday, I went out to Dumbo Park in New York to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I decided to wear my 50’s style poodle skirt that I absolutely love, with a white top and orange short sleeve blazer.

Now, I’m a girl who loves loves loves layers despite how hot it is – so I topped the look off with a pair of uber cute gladiator sandals that I purchased from Necessary clothing for ONLY $40! That’s right. 40 DOLLARS.

Check out some photos below and let me know what you think about my summer fit.

  • Blazer: H&M ($30)
  • Top (Really a Dress): Forever 21 ($15)

  • Sandals: Necessary Clothing ($40)
  • Sunglasses: Street Vendor ($10)

Hair Tip: It’s All About the Brush

Many women do not realize it, but the tools you use to detangle your hair, are equally as important as the method. Personally, I try to stay away from using plastic combs or bristles/brushes on my hair! Not only do they tend to snag, but they also add to the breakage.

Now, Denman and Wet brushes (pictured above) are worth the buy. You can purchase them online or at your local Sally’s or Ulta! Quidad also has a detangling comb that I would recommend.

The most important thing to remember is that you do not want to ADD to already damaged hair. Little changes like these will help maintain the change you’re working so hard for! Trust me.

Try It or Trash It: Shirt with Split Sides

There’s a new trend for the summer and it’s been quickly filling up my Instagram timeline. You know what I’m talking about – the whole long t-shirt with the split sides.

I’m not sure who started the trend, but I’m definitely a fan. The shirt makes for a sexy dress down look, giving women an opportunity to spice up their casual attire. I’ve seen Angela Simmons and Miss Jackson rock the look with some sneakers while out on the town and I’ve seen other celebrities dress it up for a more sexy fit.

Personally, I’ve rocked the look while out at a day party with some sexy heels – and thought it was the perfect way to do just enough, without overdoing it.

Whether you prefer to dress it up or down, I think the shirt is a perfect, easy look that can be paired with some sexy jean shorts and/or fitting jeans/leggings.

Check out some more photos below and let me know what you think. Would you try it or trash it?

DIY: American Striped Shorts

In celebration of the 4 of July holiday, I thought I’d share with you all a great, quick DIY style that is perfect to wear to any cookout.

Materials:

  • Jeans Shorts (Preferably Cut or Distressed)
  • American Flag or Bandana
  • Scissors
  • Fabric Glue or Sewing Kit

Step 1: Cut the American Flag to fit the dimensions of each leg

Step 2: Apply Fabric Glue to the Shorts (Make sure you place it everywhere as you want the flag to stick)

Step 3: Place the fabric on the shorts (Carefully pat to make sure it sticks and leave it for 30 minutes to an hour to make sure it dries)

Step 4: Repeat on the other leg

Step 5: Voila ! Now you’re ready for your Instagram photo shoot.

Personally, I would wear them with a white tank top, some sexy sandals or pumps and some hot sunglasses. That way, you look fly for the cookout, but you’re also appropriate enough to head to a day party.

If you’re having trouble with the steps above, I’ve included a video below that may be helpful. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Fashion Recap: BET Awards [Hit and Miss]

BET held it’s annual awards ceremony last night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The event brought out some of our favorite celebrities and fashionistas, but to be honest overall I was not impressed with the red carpet styles this year.

White was definitely the color of the evening as Adrienne Bailon, Paris Hilton, Ashanti, Tamar Braxton, Nelly, Eva Marcille and Jay Ellis all opted for a white ensemble. It was also clear that the men came out harder than the women – as plenty of the women looked a hot mess.

Charlie Baltimore, Zendaya Coleman, Jennifer Freeman and Ashanti were the big fails for me – while I thought Nelly, Diggy Simmons and Adrienne Bailon were the overall best dressed.

Check out some photos below and let me know who was the best and worst dressed?

BEST DRESSED:

Yes. Yes. Yes.

Nelly ROCKED that all white. I was also a fan of August Alsina in his blue – but I didn’t care too much for the hair, so I passed on including him in the photos.

WORST DRESSED:

Random: but we all thought this was Ciara and that’s hilarious. Charlie Baltimore – No. No. No.

Ashanti was a little too trashy for me – it’s never a good idea to wear your breasts and back out – and it looked like she had to hold it together before everything came out rather than being effortless. The key to showing skin is being comfortable. Now, I am usually a fan of Ashanti’s style, but this one was an epic fail. Oh. and she has on a blonde lace front.

Girl Bye. Where are you going with this blonde? I am not a fan.

50 Shades of Orange

It’s pretty evident “orange” is dominating the summer in everything from fashion to the popular Netflix series “Orange is the New Black.” In the world of makeup, an orange lip is the perfect pop of color to add to your haute summer nights in the city with the girls, poolside in Vegas, sipping Margaritas in Cabo, or to add a dash of fierce to your everyday attire.

There are a variety of shades to choose from; below are a few of my favorites that range from a nude coral to a loudmouth orange.

Product Review: Freeman Beauty Mint & Lemon Clay Mask

Freeman Beauty line has become an overnight favorite of mine. They offer a range of products for skin, foot and hair care.  My favorites are the Mint & Lemon Clay Mask and Charcoal & Black Sugar Polishing Mask.  They have so many skin care products to choose from, and I’ve already picked out my mask for my winter time dry skin.

Right now I’m pretty sure a lot of you like myself are dealing with Oily Skin.  As mentioned in my previous post “Preparing for Summer clay masks aide in oil control.  Also, in my “Kitchen Chronicles: Lemons Editionpost I mentioned using lemons as a toner to control oil.

However, I recently stumbled across the perfect combination and fell in love: Freeman Mint & Lemon Clay Mask. This mask is everything!! As stated on the packaging “This lemony cool clay mask delivers relief from inflammation caused by breakouts. Clays absorb oils to minimize shine and the appearance of large pores. Perfect for breakout prone and oily skin.”

Once I started applying the mask I felt an instant cooling sensation and felt it seeping into my pores (not a bad thing). I let it dry and then rinsed it off with warm water. Personally, my skin felt velvet smooth afterwards. I was very pleased.

After using this mask consistently for a week, I saw a reduced appearance of oil. So if you do choose to try it out keep in mind it won’t happen overnight, but over time you will visibly notice a decrease in the amount of oil production.

From an Esthetician’s point of view oily and combination skin need water- based products and this mask is water-based. (To check if a product is water based check the ingredients on the back, if the first ingredient listed is water, it’s water-based). You want to use cleansing products focused on oily skin. While oily skin can tolerate more stimulation and heavier products than normal to dry skin, you don’t want to overdo it because you can dry out your skin.

This mask also contains peppermint oil which helps soothe and nourish the skin, minimize breakouts, improve the texture of oily skin, and help fade pigmentation. When you find what works for you, STICK TO IT!

In addition to my love of the Mint & Lemon Clay Mask, I’m very fond of the Charcoal & Black Sugar Polishing Mask. I use this twice a week to exfoliate. This is a purifying mask used to detoxify the skin, and exfoliate to help absorb oil. It’s recommended for all skin types.

Since I’ve made Freeman Beauty a major part of my skin care regime I’ve been extremely pleased with the results. I highly recommend you all try Freeman Beauty, especially if you have oily skin!

This is a great, inexpensive product.

Freeman Beauty can be purchased at Ulta, your local drugstore, or www.freemanbeauty.com

***DISCLAIMER: I’m not saying this is going to work for everyone. I don’t know your skin allergies or skin types. This has worked for me and I’ve recommended this to clients who deal with oily skin. This is just a suggestion and it’s not going to work overnight. I did feel a difference in my skin immediately, but everyone is different. Like mentioned they have a variety of products for skin care that come in sample packs. Try whatever you feel will suit you in the sample pack before purchasing the large bottle.  Have a blessed day! ****

Tracy Nicole Clothing “Trunk Show”

Yesterday, I attended a trunk show launch of Tracy Nicole Clothing’s spring/summer collection. The event was held at Spa Sydell in Atlanta, and had a variety of guests in attendance including fellow blogger, Trina Small of Baby Shopaholic and actresses Keshia Knight Pulliam and Teri Vaughn.

The line officially launched in fall 2013, and since then has received tons of support from women all over the Atlanta community who love the dress down; yet, sexy look that comes with the line. Not to mention the fact that 10 percent of all proceeds from the trunk show were given to the Susan G. Komen Atlanta chapter.

I’ve included some photos from the line below, along with a short interview with Tracy Nicole. Check them out and be sure to visit her website.
